Old Dominion Deans to Deliver State of College Addresses

President John R. Broderick's annual State of the University address kicks off the academic year at Old Dominion. But, in coming weeks, the deans of the University's six academic colleges will also deliver their own addresses, to set the agenda for teaching, research and service in the year ahead.

The events will include the first State of the College address for Strome College of Business Dean Jeff Tanner, and the final State of the College address for Oktay Baysal, dean of the Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology. Baysal will leave the dean's chair at the end of this academic year.

Here are the dates and locations for the six State of the College addresses:

  • College of Health Sciences, Dean Shelley Mishoe: Wednesday, Aug. 19, 11 a.m., University Theatre;
  • College of Arts and Letters, Dean Charles Wilson: Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1:30 p.m., Batten Arts and Letters Building 1012;
  • Strome College of Business, Dean Jeff Tanner: Thursday, Aug. 20, 2 p.m., Constant Hall 1002;
  • Darden College of Education, Dean Jane Bray: Friday, Aug. 21, 10 a.m., Batten Arts and Letters Building 1012. Reception to follow in the Education Building lobby;

Besides the State of the College addresses, University Librarian George Fowler will deliver his State of the Libraries address at 1 p.m. in the Batten Arts and Letters Building 1012.

President Broderick's State of the University Address will kick off the University's 85th anniversary year, outlining the dramatic ways Old Dominion has grown since its 1930 founding into an internationally-recognized leader of research and innovation, as well as an economic engine worth more than $2 billion to the Commonwealth of Virginia.

That address is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, in the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
