The City of Norfolk began work May 11 to install a new water line on 49th Street, starting at Powhatan Avenue and progressing toward Hampton Boulevard. A portion of the road is closed and a detour is in place.

The work will continue until Aug. 15. During this timeframe, the work area will be closed to through traffic and street parking will not be allowed on 49th Street. The City will post signage to detour traffic during the road closure.

Access to Lots 44 and 49 along Powhatan Avenue will be accessible via 48th Street, adjacent to the Student Recreation Center. Normal access to Garage "E" at Foreman Field will be maintained. Road closures will move as the work progresses east toward Hampton Blvd, but 49th Street will remain closed between Powhatan and Bluestone during the installation.

The attached map shows the area where the new water line will be installed. The City expects progress to extend near Bluestone this summer and will coordinate future work with the University to minimize campus disruptions.
