Toomey Trio to Perform with Renowned Jazz Brass

The John Toomey Trio, led by the chairman of Old Dominion's music department, will perform with distinguished jazz musicians Glenn Wilson (baritone sax) and John D'earth (trumpet) on Monday, April 13.

The 8 p.m. concert will be held at the Chandler Recital Hall of the Diehn Center for the Performing Arts.

Toomey, a pianist, accompanied Wilson on the latter's widely praised recent release "Timely," which was recorded live in Virginia Beach. Dubbed "an unsung hero in modern jazz" by the All Music Guide, Wilson toured with jazz greats Buddy Rich, Lionel Hampton and Tito Puente, as well as Bruce Hornsby. He is a visiting lecturer in jazz at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

D'earth, who also has played with Hornsby and Dave Matthews, is director of jazz performance at the University of Virginia.

Tickets for the concert are $15 and $10 for ODU students with valid ID. Tickets may be purchased online at the College of Arts and Letters Ticket Sales website, by calling 757-683-5305 or at the door. Call 757-683-3020 for more information.

The F. Ludwig Diehn Concert Series is supported by a grant from the Diehn Fund of the Hampton Roads Community Foundation.
