The deadline for filing federal and Virginia state tax forms with the IRS (including the Form 8843) is APRIL 18.

TAX SEASON!

If you resided in the US during any part of the year 2021--even if you did not work/receive income--you are required to file documentation with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS.) Please carefully read the following announcements and reminders.

I. W2 Forms

If you received pay in 2021, you likely will receive a W2 statement specifying your wages and tax for that year. If you worked for multiple employers, be sure you have received all tax statements before submitting your tax filing.

If you worked on campus in 2021 and were funded by ODU, your W2 form will be available on LeoOnline. If you have not already done so, please make sure that you have provided your consent to receive your W2 electronically. The consent option is on LeoOnline/Employee self service/Dashboard/taxes, below the W2 form. If you have any questions about your W2 form please e-mail: payrollinternationaltaxandpayments@odu.edu.

If you do not choose to obtain your W2 form electronically, you may experience significant delays in processing your tax forms.

NOTE: If you received a taxable scholarship from Old Dominion University in 2021, you will receive a 1042-S form instead of/in addition to a W2. These documents will be mailed to your SEVIS domestic address by March 1, 2022. Please log into LeoOnline now to ensure your SEVIS domestic address is updated.

If you worked on campus in 2021 and were funded by ODU Research Foundation, your W2 form will be mailed to your address on file by January 31st, 2022. If your address has changed since you initially did employment paperwork (I-9 and tax paperwork) for ODU Research Foundation and you did not update your address, please send an email with your name, UIN, and new address to Deidre Odom (DNOdom@odu.edu) as soon as possible.

If you did not work at all or receive any taxable income in 2021 but were present in the US, you will need to file the FORM 8843 IRS. There is no preparation software for this form—you can complete the form online, print, and send to the address on the instructions.
