My background prior to joining the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity as a Civil Rights and Title IX Investigator included: spending several seasons in the New York Mets' organization; being a candidate for a seat on the Norfolk, Virginia City Council (I was the youngest candidate for public office in the history of Virginia); serving the country in the United States Army for eight years--much of my service was spent with The Old Guard--the Army's Honor Guard; service on the staff of the President of the United States at the White House. I have worked on many political campaigns and have extensive lobbying experience. Since law school graduation, I worked as a government relations advocate and consultant at an advocacy and consulting firm negotiating and administering contracts, conducting mediation and arbitration hearings, and lobbying. I have taught and coached fast-pitch softball coach. I am pursuing my Doctor of Philosophy in Education at Old Dominion University, spending two years (2021-2023) as a graduate teaching assistant at Old Dominion University. My research interests are higher education law and policy and intercollegiate athletics. From my time as an intern in the office of compliance in the athletic department, my dissertation topic was affirmed. My doctoral dissertation is going to be a qualitative phenomenological study on the lived experiences of student-athletes with name, image, and likeness (NIL).
