Dear Colleague:

Yesterday, Governor McAuliffe released his proposed changes to the 2014-2016 biennial budget. I am pleased to report despite the difficult financial environment the Commonwealth continues to face, the Governor has allocated an additional $1.5 million in base operating support to Old Dominion University for FY16. This commitment from the Governor in such uncertain budget times indicates our message of providing Virginians with access to a quality and affordable higher education experience has been heard clearly. I think it is also important to note that this marks the fifth year in a row that Old Dominion has been included in the Governor's budget.

The proposed budget also provides $100,000 in additional financial aid dollars for our in-state undergraduate students.

In regards to capital related projects, the Governor's amendments include $1.25 million in equipment funds for Old Dominion's new Education Building and $739,000 in additional funds to the Higher Education Equipment Trust Fund, which supports equipment upgrades for instruction and research.

I hope you will join me in thanking Governor McAuliffe for his continued support of our University. Together, we will continue to advance Old Dominion's academic excellence, and work to retain this support through the 2015 General Assembly session.

Sincerely,

John R. Broderick
President
