Dear Colleague,
The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia has spoken, and again, a professor at Old Dominion University will be among those who receive the Virginia Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council of Higher Education (SCHEV).
This honor - only 13 awards were made for 2015 - goes to Gail Dodge, professor of physics in the College of Sciences.
An Outstanding Faculty Award winner must possess a record of superior accomplishment that reflects his or her institution's mission and encompasses four areas of scholarly endeavor: teaching, discovery, integration of knowledge and service. Gail Dodge, certainly, has the qualifications, with her internationally recognized work in experimental nuclear physics, much of it done at Jefferson Lab in Newport News; with her innovations in teaching and mentoring, especially those aimed at increasing the number of women who are studying physics at Old Dominion; and with her tireless service to the national agencies and professional organizations involved in physics research and outreach.
We are proud to claim Dr. Dodge as Old Dominion's 28th winner of a SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Award.
Next week, Dr. Dodge and six other distinguished ODU faculty members, who were nominated by the university for the 2015 award, will be recognized. The other nominees were: Sheri Colberg-Ochs, exercise science; Annette Finley-Croswhite, history; John Ford, marketing; Richard Landers, psychology; Sylvain Marsillac, electrical engineering; and Glen Sussman, political science.
To Dr. Dodge and all of the nominees, I pass along my congratulations and sincere thanks for the contributions you make to Old Dominion University. I also wish to thank Dominion Resources and Dominion Virginia Power, for sponsoring the SCHEV Outstanding Faculty program. The 2015 winners will be recognized February 19 in Richmond, where Gov. Terry McAuliffe will speak and each winner will receive an engraved award and a $5,000 prize underwritten by the Dominion Foundation.
Sincerely,
John R. Broderick
President
