STEAM Event for Children with Autism Set for Oct. 27

Old Dominion University's Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC) will host a STEAM on Spectrum event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 27. The goal is to show parents fun things they can do with their children with autism that might eventually encourage them to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, art or math.

The Mea'lofa Autism Center, College of Education and College of Engineering also organized the event, which is sponsored by IEEE Hampton Roads.

Children will be able to participate in interactive and hands-on experiences with scientists, researchers and volunteers from Hampton Roads. Participants will learn about assistive technologies and how to recreate most of the experiences at home.

Organizers hope unleashing the power of art, virtual and augmented reality and programming will develop a lifelong passion for creation.

VMASC is located at 1030 University Boulevard in Suffolk. You can register at mascoffice@gmail.comor by calling 757-465-3933.

VMASC and its partners seek to foster collaboration and dialogue. STEAM on Spectrum is part of an ongoing conversation between humanists, artists, engineers and scientists around societal issues.
