Registration Open for 4th Annual Virginia Data Management Boot Camp
February 25, 2016
Scholarly output, including data, is a foundation of academia. How scholars manage that output is essential to their research process, contributions to their discipline and, in some cases, continued funding.
But with the increased scrutiny now placed on data, researchers are expected to be familiar with best practices for handling it.
The Virginia Data Management Boot Camp (VADMBC), hosted March 9 to 10 at Old Dominion University, will provide an opportunity for local, hands-on practical experience, presented by data management experts from across the state of Virginia.
The two-day workshop will be held in Gornto 222. Light refreshments will be served.
In the workshop, participants will focus on the data lifecycle, discussing and applying best practices for capturing, describing and sharing data. Content will be presented both in-person and virtually, by research, data and scholarly communication librarians from Old Dominion, the College of William & Mary, George Mason University and Virginia Commonwealth University.
The University of Virginia, Virginia Tech and James Madison University will participate as "mirror" sites, hosting WebEx live streams.
"This year's Boot Camp promises to spark conversations about data across campus," said Topher Lawton, librarian for sciences and research data support at the University. "Participants will learn first-hand how to think about data management. They will also learn key habits that can make data significantly easier to organize, analyze, archive and disseminate."
Workshop participation at Old Dominion University will be capped at 20. Potential participants are asked to RSVP to Lawton (clawton@odu.edu) by Monday, March 7.
