The following announcements were received through November 2017.

AWARDS

EMILY GOODMAN-SCOTT, assistant professor and school counseling coordinator in the Department of Counseling and Human Services in the Darden College of Education, received the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (SACES) Outstanding Pre-Tenure Counselor Educator Award. The award was presented to Goodman-Scott at the SACES Business Meeting awards ceremony held during the 2017 national ACES Annual Conference in Chicago, IL. She was among one of five in the nation to receive this prestigious award which recognizes individual faculty members displaying exceptional progress in the early stages of their academic career in regards to their research, teaching, and service/leadership.

MICHAEL KOSLOSKI, assistant professor of STEM education and professional studies in the Darden College of Education, received the Association of Career and Technical Education Research (ACTER) award for Outstanding Beginning Scholar Award

APPOINTMENTS/ELECTIONS

CHANIECE WINFIELD, lecturer in counseling and human services in the Darden College of Education, was appointed a state member of the IC&RC international board, this service position will allow for participation and oversight over many national and international credentials in Virginia. This is also great representation for ODU on a national platform. In addition, the counseling and human services department has begun to develop addiction education leading to credentialing, specifically the certified alcohol and drug counselor (CADC) credential. This appointment not only allows representation by the University, but also ensures that the department remains up to date on many changes in the field as it relates to credentialing.

BUSINESS

RICHARD NICKEL, associate professor of art in the College of Arts and Letters, founded the Norfolk Growler Company in 2016. As a research project for his area of study, ceramics, Nickel created ceramic growlers. The company has been commissioned and worked with multiple customers and breweries since 2015. Some of the commissions have been from O'Connor Brewing Company, Young Veterans Brewery, Smartmouth, RPG Construction and the Hampton Roads Shipping Association, among others. Nickel has also partnered with ODU, with part of the proceeds of ODU growlers going directly to student scholarships.
