Faculty Summer Institute on Teaching and Learning Invites Participants, Presenters

The Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT) at Old Dominion invites all research, teaching and adjunct faculty from ODU and across Virginia to attend and/or to present at the 16th Annual Faculty Summer Institute on Teaching and Learning.

Faculty members are encouraged to register now to participate - or submit their proposal by March 31 to present their best teaching practices at the Summer Institute, "Online and Face-to-Face Teaching: Realizing the Best of Both Worlds." It will be held in Webb Center May 20-21.

Chris Dede, the Timothy E. Wirth Professor in Learning Technologies at Harvard University's Graduate School of Education, is the keynote speaker. Dede's fields of scholarship include emerging technologies, policy and leadership. In 2007, he was honored by Harvard as an outstanding teacher, and in 2011 he was named a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association.

This year's Summer Institute is organized around five themes. Each theme may include presentations of papers, panel discussions, roundtable discussions or workshops. CLT is currently seeking presenters who are willing to share their personal teaching and learning journeys, including both ups and downs. The themes are:

Faculty Learning Communities: Sharing Ideas to Realize the Best of Both Worlds

Reflecting About Your Own Teaching Practices: Your Personal Transition Toward Online Environments

Involving Your Students: An Active Learning Approach

Course Design: Strategies for Both Face-to-Face and Online Teaching

Workshop: Teaching and Learning Strategies or Hands-on Technologies.

Proposals are due March 31 to present a paper, to participate in a panel discussion with colleagues or to lead a roundtable discussion or workshop. Accepted proposals will be announced in early April.

Details about the themes, session types, forms for submitting proposals and further details for registering to attend are available online: CLT Faculty Summer Institute
