Lecture Demonstrations

Mission Statement

To provide visual demonstrations for a variety of topics to supplement lectures in physics and astronomy. We aim to clarify and enhance scientific concepts presented in lecture with visible, memorable, and sometimes mind-blowing effects. Lecture demonstrations have two important purposes: to increase student understanding of the concepts demonstrated, and to increase student enjoyment of class.

About the Catalog

This website is an ongoing project to create a comprehensive library of physics demonstrations available at the ODU Physics Department. This library is possible due to the efforts of Dr. Larry Weinstein. During his years of teaching he purchased, designed, and built many of the demos contained here. While there are nearly 200 demos available, we are always looking to add to the list. If you have any suggestions for demonstrations, or ideas to make this list more useful, please feel free to contact the Laboratory and Research Specialist (info given on this page).

Included on the right side of this site is the table of contents. Currently, there are seven categories related to particular areas of physics. Each topic has sub-categories to further define where a demo is most useful. Pictures of the demos will be available soon with more to come as they are taken.
