Office ofCounseling Services

The Office of Counseling Services

The Office of Counseling Services is the only campus agency that provides comprehensive mental health services to enrolled students.

Although our office name is Counseling Services, we provide more services than our name implies. We support the academic mission of the university by also providing academic coaching, career assessment, crisis intervention, consultation and a variety of workshops and presentations to assist you in reaching your personal, academic and career goals.

Our services are offered in an atmosphere that is welcoming and respectful of all students regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, citizenship or physical status.

Our staff is committed to your success and we are devoted to partnering with you to make your college years a satisfying experience.

Mission Statement

The Office of Counseling Services (OCS) is a university agency with a competent, diverse, and multidisciplinary professional staff. OCS provides evidence based mental health services, preventative programming, and a multi-level graduate training program. The OCS staff adheres to the highest standards of ethics and confidentiality. We promote and maintain a reliable service system in a safe and supportive atmosphere.

Diversity Statement

The Office of Counseling Services (OCS) is devoted to the empowerment of the Old Dominion University (ODU) community through the promotion of diversity, advocacy, and the psychological health and well-being of the university at large. OCS demonstrates social justice through the commitment to diversity in its broadest form. We understand diversity to include, but not be limited to: race, ethnicity, language, nationality, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socioeconomic status. Our team works collaboratively to eliminate the stigma associated with seeking mental health services and aims to remove barriers to student success by informing the university community about the mental health needs of college students.
