Rotation schedule
- July - March: Physical Medicine and rehabilitation Pain Management
- April – May: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Pain Management airway management & Anesthesia Pain Management (2 weeks each)
- June: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Pain Management (3 weeks) & Psychology (1 week)
Hospice
Rotations are done at Hampton Veterans Administration Medical Center. This rotation includes inpatient pain management, end-of-life pain management and cancer pain management.
Physical medicine and rehabilitation pain management
Clinical rotations are completed at Invictus Health in Newport News, Virginia, and provide fellows with comprehensive exposure to interventional and outpatient pain medicine.
The rotation includes:
- Outpatient Pain Management: Evaluation and management of patients with acute and chronic pain conditions.
- Fluoroscopically Guided Interventional Procedures: Hands-on experience with image-guided pain procedures, including spinal cord stimulation (SCS) trials and intrathecal pump (ITP) trials.
- Spasticity Management: Assessment and treatment of patients with spasticity, including development of individualized management strategies and exposure to interventional treatment approaches.
Anesthesia pain management
This rotation is completed at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and provides comprehensive training in interventional and outpatient pain management.
Fellows gain experience with fluoroscopically guided procedures, including spinal cord stimulator (SCS) trials, as well as the evaluation and management of patients with acute and chronic pain conditions.
The fellow will also participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, promoting a collaborative approach to comprehensive pain management.
Psychology
TThis rotation is completed within the Department of Psychiatry and focuses on the psychological aspects of pain management in the outpatient setting.
Fellows gain experience in the assessment and management of behavioral, emotional, and psychosocial factors that influence chronic pain, with an emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach to comprehensive patient care.
Airway management
This rotation is completed at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and focuses on perioperative airway management.
Fellows gain experience in airway assessment and management techniques, with an emphasis on developing the clinical skills necessary to safely manage patients throughout the perioperative period
Neurology
This rotation is done at Hampton Veterans Administration Medical Center. Fellows will focus on outpatient neurological evaluations and headaches.
