Week 1

Wednesday, May 18 4:30-7 pm

Introduction to the CCL program and the course, including detailed information about course requirements, the literature review, and the final project.

Lecture and discussion: The Community College Story; Defining Comprehensive Community College; Defining Curriculum and the Curriculum Process

Students must meet with the course instructor using ADOBE CONNECT to test their equipment prior to the first day of class.

Reading Assignments: The Community College Story. Begin reading of The World is Flat.

Discussion Forums: Forum #1. Post your response and respond to two of your classmates prior to the first class meeting. 

Written Assignment: A two-to-five page, double-spaced personal essay, written in first person to introduce yourself to the professor, to state your goals and objectives for the class, and to provide your best writing sample. Due not later than midnight, Wednesday, May 25. Use the SUBMIT button in BB.

Week 2

Lecture and discussion: Historical, Social, and Philosophical Perspectives of the Community College Curriculum in the 21st Century Environment. Step 1 of Curriculum Development: Problem Identification and General Needs Assessment.

Individual video conference (during this week) with instructor using Adobe Connect to discuss research topic choice for this class' assignments. Email instructor ASAP to arrange video-conference.

Reading Assignment: Complete The World is Flat.

Discussion Forums:  Forum #2. Post your response and respond to two of your classmates prior to today's class.

Journal articles: Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.), pp. 4-7 and Chapters 1 - 4 and 6-7.

Written Assignment: Complete the first of three abstracts, due no later than midnight of June 1. (Refer to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.), Sec. 2.01-2.04, pp. 23-27.

Writing Assignment: Narrative Literature Review: Continue working on written review of literature on research topic and submit no later than July 20.

Accreditation, specific references to the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
