Ian Bartol is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at ODU.  He received his B.S. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and his M.S. and Ph.D. at the College of William and Mary/Virginia Institute of Marine Science.  He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) before joining the faculty at ODU.

Current Graduate Students:

Ashley Lavender is a doctoral student in the Department of Biological Sciences at ODU.  Ashley is studying the hearing capabilities of marine turtles throughout ontogeny using behavioral and electrophysiological techniques.  Her work is primarily conducted at the NOAA Sea Turtle Facility in Galveston, TX, where she is focusing on loggerheads (Caretta caretta).  Ashley's work promises to make significant contributions to the fields of marine bioacoustics and sea turtle conservation.

Lory Scott is a doctoral student in the Department of Biological Sciences at ODU.  Lory is focusing on stability and swimming performance of cuttlefishes using high-speed videography and DPIV/DDPIV techniques.

Rachel Wigton is a doctoral student in the Department of Biological Sciences at ODU.  Rachel is interested in cephalopod physiology, with an emphasis on octopus biomechanics.

Margaret Cook Lynott is a M.S. student in the Department of Biological Sciences.  Maggie is working on a collaborative project involving ODU and the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center on the life history of bottlenose dolphins living off Virginia's coast.

Assistants on Sea Turtle Hearing Project:

Jeanine Stewart is working on the sea turtle hearing project during the fall of 2009 at the NOAA Sea Turtle Facility in Galveston, TX.  Jeanine is assisting in behavioral audiogram work and electrophysiological recordings.

Suzie Lazarowitz worked on sea turtle hearing project during the summer of 2009 at the NOAA Sea Turtle Facility in Galveston, TX.  Suzie assisted in behavioral training trials and electrophysiological recordings.

Stephanie Couture worked on the sea turtle hearing project during the summer of 2008 at the NOAA Sea Turtle Facility in Galveston, TX.

Former Students:

William J. Stewart (M.S. 2007), thesis topic:  "Hydrodynamic fin function of brief squid Lolliguncula brevis."

Angela M. Woolard (M.S. 2008)
