555 Workshop & Professionalizing

Purpose

My motto for teaching is: a good teacher always knows that s/he has something to learn. As all of you enter the language arts classroom, you should not feel that your education as a teacher is complete. While some schools and districts will have in-service support opportunities, such as the workshop the 555 students will present, teachers in other situations will have to seek this support elsewhere (listservs, journals, conferences). We discuss some of the resources and opportunities you can take advantage of as an instructor.

Before Class

• Read Soven, Chapter 9 (241-284) & Chapter 10 (285-302)
• English 555: Submit Workshop Portfolio at the end of class; submit individual statements to the instructor by the end of the day on Friday, December 7, 2007
• Presentation Group 5 (Denise, Heather, James, Eileen)

Presentation–555 Workshop: Assessment

The English 555 students will present a workshop about assessment strategies.

Discussion–Professionalization

We will discuss some of the opportunities you will have for professionalization on the job.

Presentations–Group 5

We will be the audience for teaching demonstrations from Group 5 (Denise, Heather, James, Eileen).
