Message from the Chief of Police

The Police Department is located at 4516 Monarch Way in Norfolk, Virginia, and is open 24 hours a day, providing around-the-clock protection and services to the University community.

Police officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The department is responsible for enforcing Federal, State and Local statutes and Old Dominion University regulations. Our police officers are state-certified law enforcement officers who receive their training at the Hampton Roads Criminal Justice Training Academy.
The Police Department is responsible for law enforcement, security and emergency response at Old Dominion University, and its primary objective is to provide a safe and healthy environment that enhances the campus learning experience, and compliments the University's educational mission.
In addition, the Police Department is responsible for providing support services tailored to meet the needs of the Old Dominion University community. Some of these services are to:
- Coordinate and administer the Student Escort Service
- Maintain a Lost and Found Department
- Assist campus motorists with minor vehicle problems
- Provide crime prevention services, lectures and seminars
- Test and inspect fire and intrusion alarm systems
Numerous efforts are made to advise members of the university community on a timely basis regarding crime and crime-related problems. These efforts include:
- Crime Beat - a 24 hour crime information site that can be accessed by visiting the Crime Beat page here on our web site.
- Annual comprehensive report concerning crime statistics and crime related information.
- Crime Alerts - If the situation warrants, special crime alerts can be printed and distributed either selectively or throughout the entire campus.
To report a crime or an emergency while on campus, call the Police Department at 683-4000. You may also report a crime anonymously by completing our Silent Witness Form here on our web site.
