Upgrade to AEM 5.6
Become acquainted with the new version of Adobe CQ
Adobe has repackaged the Day web content management system (WCMS) and made it part of Adobe Experience Management (AEM). AEM is part of Adobe's new Adobe Marketing Cloud. Why is this important? You'll begin seeing some of these terms as you begin using CQ 5.6, which is the WCMS portion of Adobe Experience Management.
The following guide will walk you through the changes from the version of Adobe CQ on which you may have been trained.
Accessing CQ
The "zen" CQ login screen has been replaced by the login screen for Adobe Experience Manager.
- You will continue to access CQ at http://orbweaver.priv.odu.edu:4502
- Wired campus computer or VPN will still be required
- Use the same password as you did for CQ 5.4
After logging in, you will see the AEM Projects screen. You will note that Adobe is taking steps toward making CQ tablet-friendly.
- The traditional interface is still available (and its use is recommended - see next section).
- The tablet interface is largely for browsing content, particularly for DAM assets.
- You can easily browse the digital assets on a tablet using this interface.
- You can only view pages and activate/deactivate from a tablet.
- All page editing must be performed on a desktop system.
Websites
To access the Websites view, click on the "Sites" menu item on the left side of the screen. This will bring up the "touch" interface for websites.
As noted above, you will need to use the "desktop" interface to edit your pages. After clicking on "Sites," hover over the sites button and you'll see a small "monitor" icon appear (see middle image below):
Click on the monitor icon to bring up the traditional Websites view in CQ. Everything from this point forward works the same as it did in CQ 5.4.
Digital Assets (DAM)
You can browse the digital assets through either the "touch" interface or the "desktop" (traditional) interface.
To access either interface, you must first click on "Assets" in the left menu from the Projects screen (see left image below).
From there, you can browse the Digital Asset Manager (DAM) via the touch interface or switch the to traditional "desktop" view. To access the desktop view, after clicking the Assets button, hover over the button again to reveal the "Switch to desktop only UI" button (see middle image below). Click on the monitor icon to activate the desktop interface (right image).
You can browse the DAM assets the same way you did previously. In the touch interface, you will see larger thumbnails of the images, whereas in the desktop interface, you will see smaller thumbnails, when available.
New Feature: Advanced Search
CQ 5.6 offers a significantly more intuitive search feature than 5.4. In the desktop view, you will see a search tab behind the current tab. Clicking on it will bring up advanced search options. This search is easier to use than the search bar from 5.4.
Changed Look: Multiselect Dialog
The multiselect dialog is slightly more graphical in the new version, but functions the same way. You can click "Add Item: +" to add an item, the (-) to delete the item and the up and down arrows to change the order.
