Janet Duey Professor of Rural Land Policy in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University

Lecture Title: "Living on the Edge: Chronicles of a Wetland Scientist"

Christopher Craft is the Janet Duey Professor of Rural Land Policy in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University, Bloomington, where he directs the Ph.D. program in environmental science and teaches courses in wetlands ecology, restoration ecology, applied ecology and environmental science. He received his bachelor's degree in biology from the University of North Carolina-Asheville, his master's in ecology from the University of Tennessee and his doctorate in soil science from North Carolina State University. Craft has more than 30 years of experience working in inland freshwater and coastal wetlands. His research interests include wetland restoration, nutrient enrichment and eutrophication, carbon sequestration, and the effects of climate change. His research projects span the United States, as well as Europe and China. Craft is a founding member of the National Science Foundation Georgia Coastal Ecosystems Long Term Ecological Research program and serves on its executive committee. From 2008 to 2009, he was president of the Society of Wetland Scientists, an international organization that promotes sound wetland science, education and management. In 2012, Craft received the National Wetlands Award for Science Research, sponsored by the Environmental Law Institute in Washington. He is the author of two books, "Creating and Restoring Wetlands: From Theory to Practice" (Elsevier, 2016), and "Wetland Soils: Genesis, Hydrology, Landscapes, and Classification" (co-edited with Michael Vepraskas; CRC Press, 2016).
