LinkedIn Learning at ODU

LinkedIn Learning (previously Lynda.com) is an online training library that teaches the latest software, creative and business skills through high-quality instructional videos taught by recognized industry experts. ODU students, faculty and staff have FREE access to the entire training library.


Find content

Search: The search bar at the top of the screen allows you to search by keyword, subject, author, title and more.

Browse: Click on the "Library" link at the top of the screen to browse by topic.

Playlists: Create and share playlists or find curated playlists compiled by experts.


Get the most out of LinkedIn Learning

Watch bite-size tutorials for immediate problem-solving, or take comprehensive courses from start to finish -- at school, at home, or on the go.

  • Set aside time every week for online training
  • Watch the welcome video of a course to check out its training content
  • Use bookmarks to indicate favorite videos or courses
  • Create and share course playlists
  • Download exercise files and practice applying knowledge as you go

Certificates of Completion
When you finish a course, you can receive a certificate of completion. Print, email, or share the certificate on your LinkedIn profile.

Instructors and Administrators
Create and share course playlists, and make them available in your Blackboard course or however you share information with your students or employees.

What is LinkedIn Learning?

LinkedIn Learning provides a vast online library of instructional videos covering the latest software, creative and business skills. The courses are taught by accomplished instructors and recognized industry experts, and new videos are added weekly.

Access the LinkedIn Learning library from your computer or mobile device to watch entire courses or single tutorial videos as you need them.

Can I log in directly to linkedin.com/learning?

Yes. Go to https://www.linkedin.com/learning/ and click the "Sign in" button.

Enter your ODU email address.

You'll see a message: "Your organization requires you to sign in with Single Sign-On." Click "Sign in with Single Sign-On."

Enter your MIDAS ID and password.

Can I create a group within Lynda.com to recommend courses and/or track progress?

You can't create groups directly within LinkedIn Learning, but you can create and share collections with other users or assign videos to students/employees.

Create Collection

  • From the top of any LinkedIn Learning page, click on My Learning.
  • Click Collections.
  • Click Create New Collection.
  • Give your new collection a title and description.
  • Search for videos to add to your collection. When you find one you'd like to add, click the More button, then Add to collection.
  • Select the collection you want to add the video to, and click + Add, then Done.

Share Collection

  • From the top of any LinkedIn Learning page, click on My Learning.
  • Click Collections.
  • Click Share next to the collection you'd like to share.
  • Select Shared with: Old Dominion University, then copy the link that is generated.
  • Paste the link into an email to invite individuals to view your collection.

Once a learner completes the videos in the collection, they can send you a transcript or certificate to confirm successful completion.

What if I already have an account and want to transfer my information to my ODU account?

The first time you log in to LinkedIn Learning with your ODU account, you have the option to integrate your personal account with your ODU account. You'll keep access to your existing history, playlists and other account information.
