Sophomore Success News - August 2013
Sophomore Year: What lies ahead
It is hard to believe that we are only three short weeks away from the start of the fall semester. Take some time in the next few weeks to start thinking about your goals for the year. A few common goals that sophomores strive towards are choosing a major, investigating internship and study abroad opportunities, finding leadership roles on campus, and getting involved with community service. What are yours?
Do you want to get involved on campus? Do you want to meet new people? Do you want to make your second year even better than your first? If you said yes to any of those, become a Sophomore Star! This program has been created to help you stay on course throughout your sophomore year. As a Sophomore Star you will attend sophomore specific programming, engage with faculty in your major and even have the opportunity to plan events for your peers. Sophomore Stars will be recognized for their achievements during a reception. For more information or to sign up, contact Liz Boyd (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Sophomore Common Read
Looking for a good book to finish your summer with? All sophomore students are encouraged to read The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer. This is an excellent book about a boy who was born in Malawi with big dreams. If you are interested in participating in the common read and would like to borrow a copy of the book, contact Liz Boyd (email@example.com).
