The ODU Police Department releases records pursuant to Code of Virginia § 2.2-3704 an § 19.2-389. At the sole discretion of the ODUPD, anyone petitioning for the release of a record may be charged for costs incurred by compliance with said petition Id. F-I and A.11&40, respectively. Personal or private information, and information regarding educational records of involved parties may be redacted from copies of reports, as such information may be exempt under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (COV § 2.2-37) and/or protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 U.S.C. § 1232g).


HOW TO REQUEST A RECORD

1. SUBMIT A RECORD REQUEST FORM


To request a copy of a record, submit a completed Record Request Form to the address below, or fax it to 757-683-5660.

2. SELECT A RECEIVING OPTION

  • Pick-Up: The report will be held in the ODU Police Department's Dispatch Center, located at 4516 Monarch Way, Norfolk, VA. We ask that once you have been notified that the requested report is available, you pick it up within 2 days. Our Dispatch Center is open 24/7.
  • USPS Delivery: The report will be mailed to whatever address is provided on the request form. NOTE: The ODUPD provides no guarantee and assumes no liability, stated or implied, for the delivery or security of records mailed via the United States Postal Service.

Reports cannot be transmitted electronically due to the sensitive nature of the documents.
