Gmail @ ODU

The Office of Computing and Communications Services has announced that Gmail accounts are now available for all Old Dominion University students. Students who want to enable this service should go to:

http://monarchs.odu.edu.

When students enable their Gmail account, it will create an account with Gmail that has the same e-mail address as their current student account. All new e-mails sent to their ODU account will go to the Gmail account.

The ODU Gmail system is compatible with a wide range of Web browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, etc) and offers more than 7 GB (and growing) of space to store e-mails. A bonus is that the password is synchronized with the ODU MIDAS system, so there is no need to remember another password.

Once the Gmail account is activated, students will be able to access their e-mail via the portal at http://my.odu.edu; their old Lotus Notes account will continue to be available until March 15. To save e-mails in their Lotus Notes account, students will need to forward them to Gmail; other messages can be deleted. Gmail activation is optional now, but on Dec. 15, Gmail accounts will be activated for all students who have not done so already.

Gmail accounts are free to all students, and once they graduate it is theirs to keep as ODU alumni. There are no advertisements on ODU Gmail accounts.
