FILIPINO-AMERICAN CONCERT, EXHIBIT OPENING AND TEACHING SEMINAR ON JUNE 27

The public is invited to attend "Transforming Curricula through Filipino-American Studies: A Professional Development Day for Educators," a session of the Filipino American National Historical Society's (FANHS) national conference.

An exhibit opening by artist Bernard Conda and a piano recital by Anton Martinez will be June 27 at Old Dominion University.

The program, which begins at 8:30 a.m. at Virginia Wesleyan University June 27, will allow Filipino educators from across the U.S. to study state-of-the art Filipino-American Studies curricula.

Workshops for the program will include, "Institutionalizing Filipino History through Pinoy Teach," "History's Challenge and the Challenge of History: Teaching Strategies for Understanding the Filipino-American Experience," "Integrated Arts," and "Transforming the Canon with Filipino-American Literature." Araceli Suzara, director of the Filipino-American Student Cultural Center at Old Dominion, will co-present "Integrated Arts."

Conda's exhibit will open at 6 p.m. at the Filipino-American Student Cultural Center. The recital will be at 7 p.m. in the Batten Arts and Letters Building Auditorium. The events are hosted by the cultural center and the university's Filipino-American Pride Alumni Chapter.
