ODU to Host Annual Physics Open House March 17

By Noell Saunders

If you want to know more about the universe, or if you simply wonder what makes your hair stand on end while touching a static electricity ball, the Physics Open House at Old Dominion University on Saturday, March 17, is where you can find answers.

Events are scheduled at the Oceanography and Physical Sciences building and the Pretlow Planetarium from 1 to 5 p.m.

Activities will include full-dome planetarium shows, research laboratory tours, hands-on physics experiments, as well as two live demonstration shows. The event is free and open to the public.

"We want people to enjoy and see what ODU has to offer," said Justin Mason, the University's Pretlow Planetarium director. "It's also a great way for the Physics Department to give back and keep the comradery with the community."

The afternoon is suitable for all age groups, and a science background isn't necessary to enjoy the experiments and demonstrations.

The Physics Open House is sponsored by Old Dominion's acclaimed Department of Physics. ODU is the largest research partner at the Department of Energy's Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in Newport News.

Free parking is also available in Garage B on the corner of Elkhorn Ave. and 43rd St. RSVPs for the open house are not required but are appreciated at the Physics Department's website.
