Chef Bob Patton Awarded Top Recognition by National Culinary Association

Old Dominion University Executive Chef Robert "Bob" Patton is being recognized with the American Culinary Federation Presidential Medal for his work as an ambassador for the food service profession.

The American Culinary Federation, established in 1929, is the premier professional organization for culinarians in North America. With more than 20,000 members spanning 225 chapters nationwide, ACF is the culinary leader in offering educational resources, training, apprenticeship and programmatic accreditation.

"I try to always do better than yesterday in life and work and try to instill that philosophy in our team." Patton said. "I believe that one of my primary responsibilities is to help make every member of our team more successful. I take great pride in mentoring all cooks and chefs and promoting the culinary profession."

The ACF operates the most comprehensive certification program for chefs in the United States. The President's Medallion is the highest recognition an individual can receive from the current president of the American Culinary Federation. It is bestowed upon a chef for his or her outstanding contribution to the culinary profession.

"It was an honor to receive such a prestigious award and be in the great company of the other worthy recipients as well as my peers and colleagues. I am very proud of the Monarch Dining team for their hard work, dedication, and support and the ODU community as well to help us do what we do each day."

At Old Dominion, Patton directs more than 400 Aramark Food Services employees and 24 dining outlets — from residential halls and retail to a children's day-care center — that, at full production, turn out about 80,000 meals per week.
