Faculty, Staff Invited to Innovation Session with President Broderick, Entsminger Fellows

President John R. Broderick will lead the April 12 innovation session at the Strome Entrepreneurial Center
The effort to bring innovation and an entrepreneurial mindset to Old Dominion faculty does not stop with the University's Entsminger Fellows program.
Six Entsminger Fellows have been selected in each of the past four years to receive specialized training in entrepreneurial leadership and then to bring that knowledge into ODU's academic colleges.
Now, the 24 faculty members want to spread the gospel.
On Wednesday, April 12, President John R. Broderick and the Entsminger Fellows will host Faculty Innovation Across the Colleges. The 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. program at ODU's Strome Entrepreneurial Center will inform faculty members about entrepreneurial initiatives on campus and will offer opportunities to get involved.
The event is free for Old Dominion faculty and staff. Participants are encouraged to Register online.
"Faculty and staff innovation can take place in any setting, whether in teaching, program design, research, community service or commercialization," said Nancy Grden, executive director of the Strome Entrepreneurial Center.
"The Entsminger Fellows and the center organized this event to offer examples across the campus, as well as resources and new information for those interested in pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors."
A video featuring Old Dominion faculty and staff entrepreneurs explains how getting involved can help the individual, the University and society as a whole.
The new class of Entsminger Fellows, announced last month, includes:
- Tim Anderson, associate professor in the Department of Communication and Theatre Arts;
- Michel Audette, assistant professor in the Department of Modeling, Simulation and Visualization Engineering;
- Raymond Cheng, associate professor of practice in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics;
- Andrew Cohen, instructor in the Department of Finance and manager of the Gregory A. Lumsden Trading Room & Research Lab of the Strome College of Business;
- Jay Scribner, professor and chair of the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership; and
- Brian Payne, vice provost of academic affairs of the Office of Academic Affairs.
They join three previous classes of Entsminger Fellows in a program created as part of Old Dominion's entrepreneurial initiative, launched in 2004, following the gift of $11 million to the University by alumnus Mark Strome '78.
This year's Entsminger Fellows will attend the Babson College Price-Babson Symposium for Entrepreneurship Educators in Massachusetts on May 29 to June 2 and will return to Old Dominion with strategies they can take into the classroom.
Lee Entsminger '74, a local businessman and philanthropist, made a gift in conjunction with the launch of ODU's entrepreneurial initiative to support the Entsminger Fellows program.
