Kasie Reyes, Associate Director of VISA, is the Employee of the Month for September

Kasie Reyes, associate director in the Office of Visa and Immigration Service Advising, is Old Dominion's September Employee of the Month.

Reyes has been employed with the University since 2009.

Reyes was recognized for bringing significant changes to the office from website overhaul to streamlining various services, and outreach events geared towards ODU departments, faculty and students.

This summer, Reyes initiated and coordinated the creation of a launch page for New International Student videos, which includes videos from seven offices on campus. Reyes created this project with the purpose of assisting international students in getting acclimated with the University and life in the United States. The videos provide guidance for students as well as highlights of life at ODU. They also serve as a one-stop-shop for answers to frequently asked questions.

According to Reyes' colleagues, Delgerjargal Betcher and Alice Laubach: "Kasie goes above and beyond her required duties. In addition to her contributions, she is positive, funny and an outstanding coworker. She takes extreme pride in her work and is always willing to work one-on-one with students, faculty and staff. She is an invaluable resource and employee at ODU."

DETAILS ABOUT THE EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH PROCESS

The University Employee of the Month Selection Committee encourages employees to nominate their outstanding, "go the extra mile" colleagues and employees. This program is designed to acknowledge and reward employees whose accomplishments and/or demeanor exemplify excellence, quality service and commitment to ODU. Classified and AP faculty employees receive a framed certificate from the president, $175 and one day of leave. Hourly winners get $250, since they are not eligible to receive recognition leave.

Note: The selection committee needs specific examples that relate to each applicable criterion in order to select a nominee for the award. Nominations remain active for six months from date of submission and nominators may submit additional documentation to support a nominee during the active six months.

The criteria used to nominate an employee include the following:

  • An outstanding accomplishment that benefited the department/students.
  • Extraordinary service to internal and/or external customers.
  • Inspiring initiative/leadership.
  • Enthusiasm/energy given to assigned work.
  • Teamwork.
  • Exemplary efforts to nurture a climate of care, concern and civility.
  • Creative innovations to service, process or work tools.
