Ross and Martha Mugler Honored for Contributions to the Arts

Old Dominion University Board of Visitors member the Honorable Ross A. Mugler, and his wife, the Honorable Martha Mugler, were recently presented the Coastal Virginia Renaissance Award at the 30th Anniversary Gala for the Hampton Arts Foundation.

The award was presented to recognize the couple's continuous support and development efforts regarding the arts.

"This award is a well-deserved tribute to Martha and Ross for their commitment to the arts and the significant contributions they have made — many of which were under the radar," said Old Dominion President John R. Broderick.

Ross Mugler, who has served as the City of Hampton's Commissioner of the Revenue since 1992, was appointed to the Board of Visitors in 2014. Martha Mugler serves as president of the Hampton School Board and is employed at Old Point National Bank.

Prior to his current board appointment, Ross Mugler previously served on the University board from 2002-2010 and was Rector from 2008-2010. He received his BSBA and MPA from Old Dominion University, and is a Certified Master Commissioner of the Revenue through the Weldon Cooper Center at UVA and a graduate of the CIVIC Leadership Institute of Hampton Roads.

In addition to numerous leadership roles and state appointments, Ross Mugler serves as president of the Thomas Nelson Community College Educational Foundation and on the Board of Directors for the Hampton Education Foundation, the Virginia Living Museum, the Peninsula Fine Arts Center, the Virginia Air and Space Museum, and UVA's Hampton Roads Region Sorenson Institute. He has served on the Virginia 529 Board of Directors and is past president of the Hampton Arts Foundation and the Virginia Commissioners of the Revenue Association.
