Old Dominion University to Host PR Internship Fair

For the fourth year in a row, ODU's Public Relations Student Society of America will host its Internship Fair, which will provide current members and other students with an opportunity to meet and network with prospective communications employers from around Hampton Roads.

The event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 19 from 12 to 2 p.m. in the River Rooms of Old Dominion's Webb University Center.

The PRSSA Internship Fair is open to all students. Any communication and marketing majors are encouraged to attend, wear professional attire and bring resumes.

The fair will bring organizations from around Hampton Roads that are interested in meeting with future public relations or communication professionals. It will also give the students a resource to network with potential employers.

"ODU PRSSA members and other students with an interest in communication careers get valuable insight and opportunities from the organizations that participate," said Brendan O'Hallarn, lecturer in the Department of Communication and Theatre Arts and faculty adviser for PRSSA.

For some of those organizations, their participation will be a welcome return to exhibitor's roots. Michaela Moreland, marketing and communication assistant with the Virginia Beach Public Library, launched her career after being a member of PRSSA while at Old Dominion.

On Oct. 19, she will be on the other side of the table.

"As a student, attending the PRSSA internship fair developed my outlook on the public relations field. Direct time with professionals in my chosen field was an invaluable experience," Moreland said. "As an exhibitor, attending allows me to communicate with and encourage students with the same perspective I had as a PRSSA student."

Moreland said the bonus of meeting a potential pool of interns would benefit any organization looking for extra assistance.

Other organizations committed to take part in the Fair include The Meridian Group, Reliance Staffing and Recruiting, the Virginia Arts Festival and Ascend Athletics.
