Town and Gown Grant to Support Pretlow Planetarium Film Showing

Town-N-Gown recently announced its selection of Old Dominion University's Pretlow Planetarium as the recipient of the organization's 2016 grant.

The Planetarium will use the $4,000 grant to purchase a one-time, multi-year license for the full-dome movie "Firefall." The film is aimed at "teaching the general public about the history of asteroid and meteorite impacts on Earth and how they have shaped our planet," according to Planetarium Director Justin Mason.

The movie will complement the Planetarium's newly acquired meteorite collection which will be on permanent display.

Each spring since 1976, Town-N-Gown has awarded grants of varying amounts to deserving departments, organizations, or special events affiliated with Old Dominion. Town-N-Gown aims to support ODU and foster a stronger relationship between the University and the community.

Any school, college, department, or organizational unit, including student organizations, activities, and sports teams, affiliated with or sponsored by Old Dominion University is eligible to submit a grant request.
