ODU’s Women’s Business Center and Partners Launch Forum to Highlight Business Challenges for Women

By Noell Saunders

If you want to learn about the unique challenges women face in business, mark your calendar for the inaugural event of the Women's Forum of Coastal Virginia (WFCV). It will be Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Old Dominion University Innovation Research Park, Building 2, on 4211 Monarch Way from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Topics to be covered include the culture of equality and shattering the glass ceiling.

Angela Reddix, founder and CEO of Norfolk-based ARDX, a multi-million-dollar management and technology consulting company, will be a featured guest panelist. Reddix is also a mother of three who is pursuing a Ph.D. and launching a nationwide nonprofit.

WFCV is being presented by Hampton Roads Innovation Collaborative (HRIC) in cooperation with Old Dominion University's Women's Business Center, Cetan Corp. and Cheryl Tan Media.

"The forum is designed to help women in business to succeed and provide a place to share, learn and network," said Erika Small-Sisco, manager of the ODU Women's Business Center.

Dan Bell, the president of HRIC, said: "Challenges women face in business have been well documented and discussed from work/life balance to health issues, discrimination and pay, leadership and more. The Women's Forum of Coastal Virginia is a program created by woman members of HRIC for regional women in the workplace."

For Cheryl Tan, of Cheryl Tan Media, "these issues are real around the world, nationally and regionally, right here in Hampton Roads. Our concept is by creating a network, support group and experiential learning environment, we can help move the needle in the correct and positive direction."

Individuals can register online for $25 (with a $5 discount for students), including lunch.
