Semester-Long Coastal Seminar Series Starts Sept. 14

The Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography and the Mitigation and Adaptation Research Institute will co-host an 11-week fall seminar series that begins Monday, Sept. 14. The ODU Center for Global Health will also co-sponsor one of the seminars.

The seminars focus on a range of aspects of coastal physical oceanography, extreme events, climate change, climate decision policy and environmental analysis. The first speaker in the series will be Malcolm Bowman, of Stony Brook University's school of marine and atmospheric sciences. Bowman's seminar on future extreme events and climate change is titled "Can We Continue to Live at the Edge of the Sea?"

All presentations will begin at 3:30 p.m., with a 3 p.m. cookies-and-coffee reception, in the first-floor conference center of the Innovation Research Park Building II (4211 Monarch Way) in the University Village.

Seminar titles and abstracts will be available one week prior to each seminar and will be posted on the Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography and Mitigation and Adaptation Research Institute websites. The list of speakers can also be found at either site. There will be opportunities to meet with each seminar presenter.

Please contact Julie Morgan, Eileen Hofmann or Hans-Peter Plag for more information about the seminar series.
