Pilot Program to Expand Business Offerings at ODU Peninsula Center

Business offerings at Old Dominion University's Peninsula Center will expand this fall with a pilot program that will provide face-to-face class instruction from Strome College faculty members.
Through the program, upper level courses required in all business concentrations will be offered in-person at the ODU Peninsula Center, which is located at 600 Butler Farm Road, in Hampton.
Strome College Associate Dean Ali Ardalan said the classes will be taught by full-time faculty members. "This provides an excellent opportunity for Peninsula students to interact in person with these faculty members," he said.
The offerings are part of a program designed for students who have earned an associate degree in business from the Virginia Community College System. It was developed in cooperation by Thomas Nelson Community College and the Old Dominion's Strome College of Business to provide maximum support for students in transition between community college and a four-year university.
"Over the years, Thomas Nelson has enjoyed a strong partnership with Old Dominion that has supported successful transfer for community college students," said Lonnie J. Schaffer, vice president of academic affairs at Thomas Nelson Community College. "Business Administration has always been one of the most popular transfer majors, and we're excited to be part of this new initiative to increase access for students on the Peninsula."
The program includes evening and daytime classes, study groups, career counseling and personalized academic success services.
The ODU Peninsula Center has also partnered with the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce to introduce students to regional business leaders, match students to mentors, provide business networking opportunities and help students in their career choices.
ODU Distance Learning is providing support for the program by offering complementary online courses and fourth-year required online programming for most business concentrations. The Peninsula Center is located on the Thomas Nelson campus in the Peninsula Workforce Development Center.
