Global Maritime Security Expert to Speak at Old Dominion July 14

Security and defense expert Heiko Borchert will speak on "Autonomy in Tomorrow's Undersea Domain: Trends, Opportunities and Challenges," on Tuesday, July 14 at Old Dominion.
Borchert will open a lecture series sponsored by Old Dominion and the Combined Joint Operations from the Sea Centre of Excellence. The talk is free and will be at 10 a.m. in the North Cafeteria of Webb Center.
The lecture series is part of the continued collaboration between the University and the Combined Joint Operations from the Sea Centre of Excellence.
The Centre, established in 2006, represents 13 nations and is one of 20 NATO-accredited Centres around the world. It plays a key role in promoting the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's goals, specifically related to maritime-based joint operations.
Borchert advises, publishes and teaches on energy, infrastructure and maritime security as well as public-private security cooperation. He works for clients in the public and private sectors and speaks regularly at security and defense academies around the world.
Borchert, who holds a Ph.D. from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, is affiliated with the Hague Center for Strategic Studies and is on the advisory board of the Foreign and Security Policy Journal. He also is associate partner of Wise Pens International, a multinational maritime consultancy.
