HACE Presents Staff Awards at Annual Luncheon

Old Dominion University's Hourly and Classified Employee Association (HACE) held its annual awards luncheon on May 27.
During the event, that included remarks by President John R. Broderick and featured speaker ODU Men's Basketball Coach Jeff Jones, the 2015 Staff Member of the Year award was given to Justin R. Mason, a lab and research specialist in the Physics Department; and the 2015 Rookie Staff Member of the Year award was presented to Chad M. Luettel, a utility engineer in facilities management.
In a nomination letter, Mason's supervisor Lisa Okun wrote: "Justin's performance has been continuously impressive since his arrival at ODU and has left an indelible imprint on his department. Through his incredible diligence, initiative, and motivation, and his natural ability to work closely and coordinate with coworkers, faculty and other University personnel, he significantly improved the effectiveness and efficiency of departmental operations, enhanced student's learning experience and expanded our planetarium programs and community outreach initiatives."
Luettel's supervisor, Dana Snyder, wrote in his nomination letter: "Chad has been an incredible addition to the ODU Facilities Team. In his first year on the job, he initiated the first time participation by ODU in the Campus Conservation Nationals (CCN), and energy conservation competition among institutions of Higher Ed across the country. In researching ways to make ODU more energy conscious, Chad found out about this competition. His thorough research, excellent preparation and enthusiasm was key to the success of the competition."
