Acclaimed writer in residence Murray to give talk, reading

PEN Faulkner Award winning author Sabina Murray, Old Dominion's MFA Creative Writing Program Spring 2015 Visiting Writer in Residence, will conduct two free public presentations this week.

On Tuesday, March 24, Murray will give the craft talk, "Engaging the Past: A Writer's Perspective" from 2-3 p.m. in the Burgess Room (9024) of the Batten Arts and Letters Building.

On Wednesday, March 25, Murray will read from selected works of her fiction from 1:30-3 p.m. in the Perry Library conference rooms (1310-11).

Murray's collection of short stories "The Caprices" won the PEN Faulkner Award in 2003. She also is the author of novels "Slow Burn" and "A Carnivore's Inquiry," and has most recently authored a collection of short stories, "Tales of the New World."

As well, Murray's screenplay "Beautiful Country" was nominated for the Norwegian International Film Festival "Amanda" Award.

Murray directs and teaches in the creative writing program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Murray at ODU will offer one-on-one tutorials with MFA creative writing students.
