Chair of National Intelligence Council to appear at ODU

Gregory Treverton, the chairman of the National Intelligence Council and a well-published author on intelligence issues, will speak at Old Dominion on Tues., March 17. His presentation, hosted by ODU's Graduate Program in International Studies, begins at 7 p.m. in the Burgess Room, 9th floor of the Batten Arts and Letters Building.

Formerly the director of the Center for Global Risk at RAND Corporation, Treverton was named NIC chair last September.

He also is an advisor to director of national intelligence James Clapper, who when appointing Treverton said, "Greg's rare combination of world class analytic skills, broad substantive expertise, passion for the intelligence profession and deep understanding of the NIC's unique role and mission makes him the right person for this position at exactly the right time."

While at RAND, Treverton's work included examining terrorism, intelligence and law enforcement, as well as new forms of public-private partnership.

He has worked for the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, handling Europe for the National Security Council. Later, as vice chair of the National Intelligence Council, he oversaw the writing of National Intelligence Estimates.

Treverton's many publications on intelligence include the books "Intelligence for an Age of Terror" and "Reshaping National Intelligence for an Age of Information."

Treverton holds an A.B. summa cum laude from Princeton University and an M.P.P. and Ph.D. in economics and politics from Harvard University.
