World of Fun in Store at ODU’s 7th Annual International Festival

Come celebrate the cultures, ethnicities and traditions of more than 60 countries at Old Dominion's 7th annual International Festival, to be held Sun., April 12 at the Constant Convocation Center.

The festival, to run from noon to 5 p.m., is free and open to the public.

More than 5,000 attended last year's event. This year's festival will again feature center-stage performances of dancing, singing and other examples of cultural entertainment.

Children will have activities galore, including opportunities to mingle with miniature animals at a petting zoo from Teeny Tiny Farm.

A Global Game Zone, operated by ODU's Department of Recreation and Wellness in the Big Blue Room, will feature games from around the world, while a Children's Craft Area staffed by ODU students in the main arena will engage participants in global crafts.

The Big Blue Room will also host educational vendors representing the military, local non-profit organizations, schools and community groups.

As for food, diverse menu items for purchase will include offerings from Grapevine Restaurant (Greek), Rajput Indian Restaurant, Manila Seafood (Asian Fusion), Carmen's Café (Central American and Mexican), Belmont House of Smoke (BBQ) and Ethereal Cupcakes & Coffee Shoppe (Cupcakery).

Additionally, a Global Marketplace will feature a wide variety of jewelry, clothing, household wares and handmade items for purchase.

The festival will commence with the presentation of the colors by the Academy of International Studies at Rosemont Cadet Color Guard, to be followed by welcoming remarks by ODU President John R. Broderick.

An opening ceremony with remarks by co-sponsors will begin at 1 p.m. in the main arena.

The University is joined by co-sponsors that include: the Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach public school systems; the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority; the Hampton Roads Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; ODU's Town-N-Gown, NATO ACT, and Norfolk's Department of Recreation, Parks and Open Space.
