Veterans Day Luncheon to be Held Nov. 9

A Veterans Day luncheon sponsored by the Student Veterans Association, Military Connection Center and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity will be held Monday, Nov. 9 at noon in the Hampton-Newport News room in Webb University Center.

The luncheon is open to all who wish to attend. Please RSVP here. A cake-cutting ceremony will recognize the birthday of the United States Marine Corps.

Ted Van Horn, commander of the 2nd District American Legion, will be the guest speaker. A Vietnam veteran, Van Horn served in the Marine Corps from 1960 to 1970 and is a former local president of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Van Horn holds a master's of educational administration from Old Dominion.

Student speakers will be Cody Berkowitz, a Marine Corps veteran and Pi Kappa Alpha vice president; and Mary Bloom, a Navy veteran and member of the President's Task Force for Inclusive Excellence.

The Student Veterans Association at Old Dominion serves the needs of students with prior or current military affiliation, their families and their dependents. It can reached at SVA@odu.edu.

The Military Connection Center also is committed to assisting veterans, including active duty service members, reservists, guardsmen and their families, to successfully navigate the transition to academic life. The center provides comprehensive support for students to succeed at ODU from the point of admission through graduation and on to a productive career.
