ODU Launches Monarch Mailer E-Newsletter to Share University’s Top News

This week, Old Dominion launched Monarch Mailer, an electronic newsletter intended to share the top news stories about the people, programs and research that make the University a world-class institution.

To bring you that type of information, and much more, the Office of Strategic Communication and Marketing created Monarch Mailer. It will be delivered once a month directly by email.

In it, readers will find the top stories produced by the University's news bureau, links to upcoming events and vibrant photographs and videos that provide a compelling view of campus life at ODU.

The inaugural issue, delivered this week, includes a story about U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's recent visit to Old Dominion to discuss climate change and sea level rise in an address that also highlighted the national security implications of this important issue. Secretary Kerry chose ODU for his address, just ahead of an important United Nations summit in Paris, because the issue is being tackled head-on right here on campus.

Other stories in the issue tell about a unique expedition some ODU researchers recently took to the North Pole, the Mitchum Basketball Performance Center that is being constructed behind the Ted Constant Convocation Center and the recent dedication of the Arts in the Village project that demonstrates the importance Old Dominion still places on the arts.

University success stories, from a retired physician turned music composer, whose nine-movement English/Latin Mass will be performed this month, to the latest inductees into the Strome Entrepreneurial Center's Hall of Fame, were also included in the issue and similar articles will be featured in future editions.

"It's all important news because these stories offer key insights into the diverse and dynamic nature of the living and learning environment at Old Dominion University," President John R. Broderick said in his President's Corner column that introduced Monarch Mailer to the University community.
