November 12, 2015
Old Dominion University, the City of Norfolk and the Virginia Space Grant Consortium will present GIS Day on Thursday, Nov. 19 to promote education and application of geographic information systems.
The annual event, which is free and open to the public, will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Hampton-Newport News room of Webb University Center.
Free parking is available for guests on the third, fourth and fifth floors of Garage E on Bluestone Ave.
Part of Geography Awareness Week, a geographic literacy initiative sponsored by the National Geographic Society, GIS Day provides a forum for GIS users to demonstrate real-world applications in society.
ODU has played host to GIS Day since 2008. This year's event will consist of professional presentations, a panel discussion about careers in geospatial technologies and student poster competitions at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
