ODU Adjunct Prof Jennifer Del Corso Receives Practitioner Award from Chi Sigma Iota

Jennifer Del Corso, adjunct assistant professor of counseling and human services, in Old Dominion's Darden College of Education, was named recently as a recipient of the 2013-14 Outstanding Practitioner Award from Chi Sigma Iota, the international academic and professional honor society in counseling.

Each year, Chi Sigma Iota honors seven active members to receive its Outstanding Individual Awards. The individual awards programs honor individual members including students, professional counselors and counselor educators in the following areas: Outstanding Entry-Level Student, Outstanding Doctoral Student, Outstanding Service to the Chapter, Outstanding Chapter Faculty Advisor, Outstanding Research, Outstanding Practitioner and Outstanding Practitioner Supervisor.

Those selected provided evidence of outstanding leadership, innovation and service within their respective chapter. The seven recipients receive recognition and a plaque of honor. Outstanding Individual Awards nominees must be members of CSI and have the support of their chapter including endorsement by the chapter faculty advisor.

ODU's Omega Delta Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota announced the selection of Del Corso for the Outstanding Practitioner Award. This award was established to recognize an outstanding counselor whose time is spent primarily in direct clinical counseling services. Del Corso was recognized as one who exemplifies excellence as a clinician within her community, and who has the talent and ability to help others feel accepted and understood, while facilitating their growth and recovery from negative life experiences.

She has a wide variety of clinical skills and experience, including work in: career counseling; individual, couples and family counseling; group counseling; and school counseling. She has facilitated psychoeducational workshops and groups - working with a range of clients including children, adolescents, young adults and older adults.

The Omega Delta Chapter, under the leadership of Tara Hill and Suzan Thompson, chapter faculty advisors, was chartered in 2007.
