Online Marketing Exec Randi Zuckerberg to Speak at ODU April 9

Randi Zuckerberg, a pioneering online marketing executive and New York Times best-selling author, will speak at Old Dominion University on Wednesday, April 9.

Presented by the Air Force Reserve, the event is being co-hosted by the ODU Career Management Center, ODU Women's Center and Gold Key International Society. Zuckerberg's talk, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session, starts at 6 p.m. in the North Café of Webb University Center. The program, free to the ODU community, will be followed by a meet and greet with Zuckerberg from 7:30-9 p.m.

Her appearance at ODU is part of a national college tour. Zuckerberg is the founder and CEO of Zuckerberg Media, and editor-in-chief of the online community Dot Complicated, which she created. The first 100 attendees will receive a copy of the book "Dot Complicated: Untangling Our Wired Lives."

Zuckerberg created Dot Complicated to help find the "new normal" for people whose lives have been changed in myriad ways by technology. In an effort to "sort through the noise," Dot Complicated produces a weekly newsletter with updates on digital solutions, tech trends and ways to maintain balance in our lives. As an early executive at Facebook, Zuckerberg created and ran the social media pioneer's marketing programs. She led the company's U.S. election and international politics strategy and created Facebook's live streaming video capability during the 2008 presidential Inauguration. Zuckerberg was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2011 for her innovative coverage of the 2010 mid-term elections, which integrated online and TV coverage in unique formats.

Since starting Zuckerberg Media, she has produced shows and digital experiences for BeachMint, the Clinton Global Initiative, Cirque du Soleil, Bravo and Condé Nast. Zuckerberg has also written a children's picture book, titled "Dot."

The Air Force Reserve is an integral part of the nation's defense. The men and women who serve in the Reserve perform the same missions and work side-by-side with those serving on Active Duty with the U.S. Air Force.
