VMASC Open House Set for April 17

The field of modeling and simulation is vital to the Hampton Roads economy. It's also a dynamic, rapidly changing field. Old Dominion University and its Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC) are at the hub of M&S activity in the region.
The annual VMASC open house on Thursday, April 17, stresses the myriad changes occurring in the important regional research and economic development sector, and ODU's role in that evolving discipline. With the theme "The Evolution of Modeling and Simulation Happens Here," the VMASC open house will bring together industry leaders, elected officials and K-12 students.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at VMASC headquarters, 1030 University Blvd. in Suffolk.
"There is a wealth of innovative M&S knowledge and application taking place right here in Hampton Roads," said VMASC executive director John Sokolowski. "At Old Dominion University we have been on the forefront of this discipline, doing M&S work on medical, transportation, flood mitigation and other simulations."
The open house features lab tours, hands-on demonstrations, an opportunity to meet ODU modeling, simulation and visualization engineering department representatives, and information about STEM programs available at ODU.
Officials from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Eastern Virginia Medical School and NASA, as well as several Hampton Roads community leaders, plan to attend.
For more information or to RSVP, contact Sheila Flanagan at sflanaga@odu.edu or 686-6208.
VMASC is one of the world's leading research centers for computer modeling, simulation and visualization. A university-wide multidisciplinary research center that emphasizes modeling, simulation, and visualization research, development and education, VMASC furthers the development and applications of modeling, simulation and visualization as enterprise decision-making tools to promote economic, business and academic development. The center conducts approximately $10 million in funded research annually.
