Sport Management Media Class to Live Tweet Monday's Lady Monarchs Rivalry Game with William & Mary

Bring your phone and school spirit to the Ted Constant Convocation Center on Monday, Nov. 17. Students and fans will be live tweeting during the basketball game to promote and support the Lady Monarchs as they take on in-state rival William & Mary.

This will be the final tune-up before the Lady Monarchs host the nationally ranked Duke Lady Blue Devils on Thursday, Nov. 20. The 7 p.m. game against the Lady Tribe will be the second official regular season game for the Lady Monarchs. In their first exhibition game, the Lady Monarchs looked very strong and dominant against David & Atkins, winning 91-62. This will also be William & Mary's second game.

The Sport Media and Public Relations class in the Department of Sport Management will be participating in a live tweet-up during the game. Collectively, the class will use Twitter to attract attention to Old Dominion basketball's network of fans.

The class encourages other fans to live tweet the game, joining the conversation on game night by using the #757Showdown hashtag on Facebook and Twitter.

Lady Monarchs coach Karen Barefoot is excited for the season to begin. "Looking forward to coaching this highly motivated team this year. They are passionate, determined and ready to display their up-tempo, aggressive style of play that fans will enjoy," she said.

"Our ability to score beyond the arc and pound it inside will give us a strong balance this year. I'm fired up and ready to go!"

As the Lady Monarchs enter their second season in Conference USA, the team's incoming recruiting class is ranked 43rd in the nation. The team will be led by redshirt sophomore forward Jennie Simms, redshirt junior guard Ashley Betz-White and redshirt sophomore Annika Holopainen. Leading returning scorer Chelisa Painter, who averaged 8.9 points and 5.9 rebounds for the 2013-2014 season, is rejuvenated and eager for the season to start.

On top of the Conference USA schedule, there are many exciting nonconference games on the schedule. ODU will host Duke and rival VCU, and will travel to Louisville and the University of California. The Lady Monarchs will also play in the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic in December. Entering her fourth season with the Lady Monarchs, Coach Karen Barefoot is looking to build the program and has high hopes to earn a bid in the NCAA Tournament.

The 2014-2015, William and Mary women's team will be returning to the Ted lead by Coach Ed Swanson, in his second year as head coach. Ten players return from last year's 8-21 team. The Tribe will be led by senior Jazmen Boone and three other all-CAA players.

The contest will be videostreamed live in HD through Monarch Media on ODUSports.com and will also air live on ESPN 94.1 FM Hampton Roads with Doug Ripley (Voice of the Lady Monarchs) on play-by-play and Susan Montgomery (former Lady Monarch assistant coach) handling color duties.
