ODU to Host Spirit Friday Food Drive on Sept. 27
September 25, 2013
The Old Dominion University Office of Community Engagement is sponsoring a "Spirit Friday Food Drive" on Sept. 27 to support a call to service issued earlier this month by Gov. Bob McDonnell.
ODU students, faculty and staff are asked to "Show your Monarch pride!" by donating non-perishable food items from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 106 Koch Hall. Participants will be entered in a drawing to win a grab bag of ODU gear.
All donations benefit the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.
For more information contact Tamorah Park, in the Office of Community Engagement, at tpark@odu.edu or 683-7481.
McDonnell recently declared Sept. 15-29 as "Days of Service" in Virginia. The regional effort, which began last year, brings together members of the faith and nonprofit communities and engaged citizens to participate in service projects in their communities and schools.
"Service to others is the highest distinction we can achieve and I hope that you will serve as examples throughout state government in taking on worthy projects between now and September 29," the governor wrote, in a letter to state employees.
