Old Dominion University Board of Visitors Sets 2013-14 Tuition and Fee Rates

The Old Dominion University Board of Visitors approved 2013-14 tuition and fee rates at its April 26 meeting.

For in-state undergraduates, tuition will increase $185 per semester, or $370 per year, based on 15 credit hours per semester. In-state graduate students will see an increase of $466 per year. Out-of-state undergraduate and graduate students will see an annual increase of $1,150 and $1,234, respectively.

According to Chief Operating Officer David F. Harnage, the university based its fee structure on Gov. Bob McDonnell¹s recent request to keep in-state tuition and fee increases in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rate, after taking into account institution-specific state budget actions and unavoidable cost increases.

"Those costs account for the majority of the tuition increase," Harnage noted. "After accounting for that, the university kept its increase to 1.78 percent, just under the 1.8 percent CPI for the South Region as of February 2013."

Among Virginia's public universities that have announced their tuition and fee rates for the next academic year, ODU has one of the lowest dollar increases and remains one of the least expensive institutions in the commonwealth.
