ODU Profs Will Share National and Local Predictions at Economic Outlook Conference
January 16, 2013
Will an improving U.S. economy result in stronger growth for 2013? Or will the threat of military cuts put a damper on the economic recovery? Answers to those and other questions will be revealed when the team of researchers behind Old Dominion University's Economic Forecasting Project presents its 2013 national and local forecasts.
The Economic Outlook Conference, sponsored by Towne Bank, The Virginian-Pilot, Inside Business and the Economics Club of ODU, is widely respected as an accurate harbinger of the year ahead for the region. It will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott.
This year's program will consist of two presentations. Gary Wagner, professor of economics and the newest member of the three-person ODU Economic Forecasting Team, will give the 2013 national economic outlook from 10:30-11:45 a.m. His presentation is free and open to the public, although advance registration is strongly encouraged; register online at www.2013econforecast.eventbrite.com or by calling 683-5138.
Vinod Agarwal, professor of economics and director of the Economic Forecasting Team, will present the 2013 Hampton Roads economic forecast during a luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. The program is free for Economics Club members and $40 for non-members. Reservations are required for the luncheon program; register online at www.2013econforecast.eventbrite.com or by calling 683-5138.
Mohamed Najand, professor of finance, is the third member of the Economic Forecasting Team.
The Economic Forecasting Project, housed in ODU's College of Business and Public Administration, provides an unbiased look at the local economy, based on data compiled from national and regional reports.
The Economics Club of Hampton Roads co-sponsors the Economic Outlook Conference as part of its annual program of events and speakers aimed at engaging the local population in important economic issues. For more information, or to join the Economics Club, visit http://bpa.odu.edu/bpa/econclub.shtml.
